Fortified Wine Glasses |
 The definition of a ’fortified wine’ is a wine where additional alcohol has added, and are also known as ’liqueur wines’. Ever heard of Brandy? Then you’ve heard of fortified wine before.
Originally wines were fortified to preserve them, which additional alcohol helps to do, however people soon became partial to the flavour of brandy, sherry, port, and muscat, so these wines were soon produced with a focus on taste rather than preservation.
There is often confusion that fortified wines are in fact spirits, it should be noted however, that spirits are distilled to create a higher alcohol content, while fortified wines have spirits added to them, and are not as strong as spirits.
Fine liqueur wines are very much dependant on the glass they are contained in, and for that reason we stock nothing but the best glasses for that specific purpose.
