 Riedel’s ’Basic’ series includes glasses for red and white wine, together with a champagne flute. Unlike the Sommeliers and Vinum ranges, which are both blown from costly lead crystal, ’Basic’ is made from soda lime glass and this has enabled Riedel to offer these glasses at £6.00 per stem.
All three glasses in the Basic range have short stems which enable them to be loaded safely in the top section of a dishwasher. There has, however, been no compromise on one of Riedel’s most cherished principles of design: a thin polished rim that allows the wine to flow smoothly and evenly from the glass (most glasses in this price bracket have a thick, rolled rim which presents a ’barrier’ to the wine’s flow). The bowls are modelled on three of the most versatile shapes in the Vinum series: Chardonnay, Chianti and Prestige Cuvee Champagne. |
